Generally when you think of Mikhail Baryshnikov you think of dancing. But he’s also an accomplished actor (there’s usually at least some kind of story behind ballet, after all) and, surprisingly enough, he made a fairly major appearance in the televsion hit Sex and the City.

In it Baryshnikov plays Aleksandr Petrovsky, an older, succesful Russian artist. He woos and wins Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and she enjoys spending time with him; however the fact that he’s already had several children and doesn’t want more daunts her. Nevertheless she stays with him, outweighing her need for children and commitment with her affection for Petrovsky.

But thigns don’t last. Petrovsky asks Carrie to come with him to Paris. She agrees after some hard thought but finds herself disoriented upon arrival. Not only can she not speak French, Petrovsky leaves often to deal with his own career. Invariably Carrie leaves Petrovsky for her real love, “Mr. Big”, and returns with him to New York. This return marks the end of the series.
